Manatee County Government is hiring for a position with a salary range of $23.67 to $38.34 hourly. The job is located in Bradenton, FL and is a full-time hourly position. The job number is 25-00183 and is within the Public Works department. The opening date is February 27, 2025, with a continuous closing date. The work location is the Public Works Administration Building, 1022 26th Street East, Bradenton, Florida 34208. The work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. The job involves inspecting horizontal infrastructure construction projects such as roadway grading, water mains, and sanitary sewers, to ensure full adherence to plans, specifications, standards, and regulations. The job requires examining plans, blueprints, diagrams, surveys, and similar documentation. The position involves regular interaction with property owners, contractors, and the general public, always providing a high level of customer service. Working conditions include an outdoor field situation, performing strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions, traversing uneven or rugged terrain, and a high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. The position requires lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs. alone and up to 100 lbs. with assistance. It also requires driving county vehicles as part of the job duties, climbing and descending equipment and ladders, and working in confined spaces. The position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as the ability to hear and identify sounds. Position level and salary will be dependent on qualifications. Job Description

The essential functions of the job include inspecting horizontal infrastructure construction projects such as culverts, driveways, roadway grading, curbing, water mains, reclaimed water mains, force mains, and sanitary sewer mains to ensure full adherence to plans, specifications, standards, and regulations. The job also involves inspecting the workmanship of finished installations for conformity to plans, specifications, standards, and regulations. It requires measuring distances to verify the accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts, reading, interpreting, and explaining civil construction plans, record drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications related to the area of assignment. The job also involves conferring with and advising contractors, property owners, architects, engineers, and the general public regarding the interpretation and application of Manatee County and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, zoning ordinances, and other applicable codes. It also requires preparing and maintaining necessary logs, records, and reports, approving pay requests for assigned projects, and performing all work in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and technical standards. The job strictly adheres to safety procedures to protect self, co-workers, and the general public and attends job-specific training classes as assigned by the supervisor. It also performs other related work, including weather or other extreme emergency duties, as required. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Non-Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire. Infrastructure Inspections Officer: Minimum of four (4) years technical and trades experience in the inspection of infrastructure and/or building construction work. Senior Infrastructure Inspections Officer: Six (6) or more years of technical and trades experience in the inspection of infrastructure construction. Mobile Video Training (MVT) Confined Space Entry. Utilities Department positions only: Level III Water Distribution License or Class C Wastewater Certification within 18 months of hire date. Valid Florida CDL Class A driver's license with Tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire date. A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to resolve situations and problems of a nature and complexity commensurate with experience. Good knowledge and understanding of basic algebra and geometry in order to calculate proportions, percentages, areas, circumferences, volumes, etc. Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities. Good knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties. Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, contractors, engineers, the general public, and other stakeholders.
