Art Department Lab Asst. Student Employee
Overview: The Art Department Lab Assistant Student Employee is responsible for monitoring the Ceramics, 2D/3D Design and Drawing/Painting studios during open studio times. Student employees are expected to help maintain a safe, organized and productive studio. Duties include mixing clay, mixing glazes, loading and unloading gas and electric kilns, answering phones, cleaning/organizing, setting up for art shows, assist with special projects (building), and other job related duties. Sometimes Hours Available:
Monday-Thursday: 12:00 pm- 3:00 pm. Friday: 2:00 pm- 6:00 pm. Schedule Flexibility:
Usually determined around class schedule (flexible) Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) and Learning Outcomes: Monitor Studio and make sure safe practices are being followed Mix clay, glazes and other materials for classes Learn to load/unload and fire gas and electric kilns Serve as a resource person to students during open studio times Answer phones Work with Art Department Staff collecting/setting up artwork for exhibitions Provide customer service and maintain an organized/clean studio Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs): Must be enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. Employed over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer, or students continuing registration into the following fall semester. Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College. Eligible to work in the United States. Some experience taking art classes (ceramics preferred) Experience with tools Ability to lift up to 50lbs
