Library Assistant
The Library Assistant works at the circulation desk, checks materials in and out, makes copies, records fines, calls reserves, answers phones, shelves and straightens materials and shelf-reads, and processes new materials. Work includes assisting customers with computers, eBooks, catalog, and other devices, and teaching patrons to use the Library's online resources. The Library Assistant must work productively and tactfully with people of all ages. Work requires locating materials and information in person, by phone and online. The Library Assistant must interact and effectively communicate with immediate supervisor, coworkers, other County personnel, various outside professionals and agencies, and the general public. Resolves customer complaints and promotes and demonstrates the County's organizational culture, core values, and leadership philosophies. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Branch Manager. The Library Assistant will work at any branch location as needed and may float between branches. The Library Assistant may drive the library van on occasion. The weekly work schedule will vary but will be four (4) to twelve (12) hours per week. Weekend hours are required, and the Library Assistant will be assigned to a specific location for weekend hours. Associate's degree with previous library experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Familiarity with current authors, bestselling titles, and classics preferred. Must be physically able to operate a variety of library systems and office machines and equipment which includes a computer, printer, copier, telephone system, etc. Must be able to use body members, hand tools and/or special devices to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to twenty pounds, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
