Process Technician I
Toppan Packaging is seeking a hands-on and technically skilled Process Technician I to join our Franklin Park facility. This role is responsible for supporting production through process monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will be proactive, safety-conscious, and passionate about driving continuous improvement on the plant floor. Key Responsibilities: Prioritize the safety and health of all employees in every task and decision Monitor and adjust cycle times and process settings to maintain optimal production efficiency Modify processes for new or changing product orders Work with machine operators to resolve process issues and implement improvements Conduct process monitoring, sampling, testing, and equipment preparation Support troubleshooting of mechanical and process issues across shifts Ensure equipment and processes maintain standard production outputs Monitor process flow, material usage, and quality standards to meet customer specs Assist with preventative maintenance projects Back up press operators and shift supervisors as needed Participate in mold changes, equipment repairs, and optimization of molding processes Conduct test runs and production trials Maintain a clean and organized work area Support training efforts for Production Supervisors and fellow Process Technicians Consistently demonstrate high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety protocols Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Plastics Technology Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Familiarity with 3D design software (preferred) Ability to create and utilize Excel Macros (preferred) Basic project management knowledge or certification Strong verbal and written communication skills Must be able to work independently and as part of a team Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and overtime Growth Path
Advancement Opportunities: Successful candidates may advance to Process Technician II and Process Technician III roles, where additional responsibilities include: Process Technician II: Troubleshoot and repair electrical/pneumatic systems Improve manufacturing practices and enhance process capabilities (e.g., PPK) Develop and maintain recipes for Thermoforming and Extrusion processes Utilize quality tools such as Pareto charts, data analysis, and calibration systems Gain proficiency in Infinity database, Agile, Vorne, and OEE Studio Process Technician III: Lead SPS teams and execute Blue Belt projects Proficient in AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, INVENTOR Manage equipment upgrades and external contractors Lead capital projects (CAA) and visual control initiatives Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders Drive safety, quality, and continuous improvement on the production floor Why Toppan?
