Finance Director
The City of Independence is seeking a dynamic and experienced Finance Director to lead the City's fiscal operations and provide strategic financial leadership. Reporting directly to the City Manager, this key executive position oversees all financial functions, including budgeting, accounting, utility billing, municipal court operations, and financial reporting for both the City and the Urban Renewal Agency. As a member of the City's executive team, the Finance Director will serve as a chief financial advisor to the City Manager and Council, manage a diverse team of finance professionals, and ensure compliance with Oregon Budget Law and generally accepted accounting principles. This role plays a vital part in citywide policy-making and long-term financial planning, while also directing daily financial operations and promoting transparency, accuracy, and fiscal responsibility. Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all City and Urban Renewal Agency budget processes Supervise the Finance Department, including utility billing and municipal court staff Conduct financial forecasting, analysis, and reporting Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee annual audits Serve as liaison to financial institutions, auditors, and advisory committees Promote financial sustainability and internal control best practices Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Minimum of five years of progressive municipal finance experience Strong leadership and supervisory skills Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred Proficient in financial systems (e.g., Caselle), Microsoft Office, and data analysis tools Why Join Us?
