District Health Director Position

The Georgia Department of Public Health (GA) is seeking new talent to work as a District Health Director. Four (4) positions are available for the following health districts: LaGrange, GA - Jonesboro, GA - Lawrenceville, GA - Decatur, GA. As a District Health Director, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission of protecting the lives of Georgia's residents and visitors in a variety of ways. The District Health Director position provides direction, supervision, and oversight of a public health district and serves as the chief executive of the county boards of health and their respective public health departments. The local board(s) of health will serve in a largely advisory and advocacy role for each county health department. This is broad, highly stimulating, population health improvement work which ranges from policy development, environmental health regulations, to public education, contagious disease prevention and treatment, clinical preventive care, and more. The District Health Director will: Provide management and direction to County Health Departments Provide management and oversight to District programs and responsibilities Lead strategic planning and community responsiveness agenda Monitor the health status of the District and respond to identified problems or measurable needs Oversee the appropriate development and administration of budgets Provide oversight and direction to staff responsible for managing Human Resources and Employee Relations functions Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field Develop and maintain the capacity and capability of the district health office and county health department to detect, investigate, and manage emergency Public Health events Create and maintain a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation Competencies include: Ethical principles in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information Resources to meet community health needs Communication of the role of public health within the overall health system Public health organization's cultural competence Effectiveness of community engagement strategies on public health policies, programs, and resources Application of public health sciences to public health policies and programs Critiques strategies for determining budget priorities Organizational practices in concert with changes in the public health system Minimum qualifications include: Non-Physician: Master's degree in public health or related field or a higher-level degree in a related public health field from an accredited college or university AND two years of professional management level experience in public health or the healthcare sector. Physician: Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine and a valid license from the Georgia Composite Medical Board or eligible to obtain licensure in Georgia AND two years of professional experience in public health, preventive medicine, or private medicine. Preference will be given to applicants who have: Master of Public Health and 3 - 5 years of senior level management experience. Knowledge of the core functions of public health. Experience in the development, management, and administration of budgets, contracts, or grants. Experience in strategic planning and health planning. Experience in human resources/personnel management. Knowledge in emergency preparedness and response planning.
