The City of Sachse is offering a full-time position for a skilled worker in the Public Works Department, specifically in the Streets Division. The salary range for this position is $18.42 to $25.59 per hour. The starting salary will vary based on the level of experience and qualifications. The essential job functions include: Setting up and removing barricades and traffic cones to secure work areas. Operating various heavy equipment. Observing problematic cracks in streets. Determining the best way to complete repairs. Preparing crack seal machines, inserting tar into the machine, and heating hoses. Blowing cracks with air to remove debris, rocks, and dirt. Utilizing crack seal machines to fill cracks with tar. Documenting all work completed. Repairing potholes and other damage to the city's streets by: Operating motor vehicles, observing the city's roadways. Identifying problematic roadway hazards. Retrieving appropriate equipment and tools from the truck. Using a saw to cut around potholes in the street. Operating a steel roller to roll the base. Tacking outer edges. Filling potholes with concrete or asphalt mix to patch street damage. Utilizing loader machinery to back drag. Raking the area to obtain smooth edges. Maneuvering a steel roller over the area to compact the mix. Documenting the work completed. Maintaining the city's concrete areas by: Identifying problematic streets, alleys, and sidewalk areas. Breaking concrete areas. Setting forms for new concrete, filling with concrete mix, ensuring the shape of concrete. Operating various equipment. Documenting all work completed. Maintaining the city's streets by: Patrolling streets and related areas for litter and debris. Collecting debris from streets, greenbelts, right of ways, underpasses and overpasses within the city's limits. Storing debris in a vehicle, and operating equipment to clear streets from debris, transporting debris to collection facilities, maintaining a log of materials collected. Documenting actions and procedures as required. Assisting other departments as needed by: Providing maintenance support to Parks and Recreation, Drainage and Water, and Sewer. Completing irrigation repair as necessary and signs, buttons, and markings activities. Working on special projects as assigned, and documenting all work completed. Setting up and removing barricades and traffic cones to secure work areas. Assisting other public works divisions with maintenance and repair work as needed. Performing other related duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications

Required knowledge and skills include: Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards, and precautions for the assigned area. Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and methods. Knowledge of traffic control techniques and methods. Knowledge of safe work methods and techniques. Skill in utilizing a variety of tools and equipment for utility, street, and park maintenance. Skill in following written and oral instructions. Skill in effective oral and written communication. For Maintenance Technician I: Required education and experience: High school diploma/GED supplemented by one (1) year general labor experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. License, certification, or other special requirements: Possess a valid State of Texas Driver License at time of hire. Note: Employees hired to work in the Public Works Department will be required to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher within twelve (12) months of hire in order to continue employment. Note: All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and must be maintained as a condition of employment. For Maintenance Technician II: Required education and experience: High school diploma/GED supplemented by two or more years of specialized experience in the area assigned (Streets, Water/Wastewater, or Parks Maintenance). An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. License, certification, or other special requirements: Possess a valid State of Texas Commercial Driver (CDL), Class B at time of hire or career progression. Note: Those assigned to Water or Wastewater Divisions must possess and maintain a Class D Water Operator License OR Class I Wastewater Collection License or have the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire in order to continue employment. Note: All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and must be maintained as a condition of employment. For Maintenance Technician III: High school diploma/GED supplemented by five or more years of specialized experience in the area assigned (Streets, Water/Wastewater, or Parks Maintenance). An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. License, certification, or other special requirements: Possess a valid State of Texas Commercial Driver (CDL), Class B at time of hire or career progression. Those assigned to Water or Wastewater Divisions must possess and maintain two or more of the following licenses at the time of hire or career progression: Class D Water Operator License or higher Class I Wastewater Collection License or higher Backflow Protection Assembly Tester (BPAT) Those assigned to the Streets Division must possess and maintain either a Class D Water Operator License or higher OR Class I or higher Wastewater Collection License OR have successfully qualified on performance testing for operation of heavy equipment at the time of hire or career progression. Note: All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and must be maintained as a condition of employment. Supplemental Information

Environmental factors and conditions/physical requirements: Work is performed in an outdoor environment. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting. Must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally. May be subject to dangerous machinery, exposure to extreme weather conditions, potential for physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases. Equipment and tools utilized: Equipment utilized includes City vehicle, backhoe, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, shovels, picks, rakes, brooms, hammers, saws, drills, concrete tools, and other construction and maintenance-related tools and equipment.
