Peer Stem Tutor
The Student
Peer Stem Tutor is responsible for providing support to the Stem Lab (Math Lab) by providing students with resources that will enhance their opportunity for academic success, and facilitating their transition to Cochise College. Peer tutors are expected to foster a sense of community among students at Cochise College and work cooperatively with other staff members to provide educational activities. Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position: Tutor and facilitate one-on-one sessions, group sessions, or workshops in Classrooms, Stem Lab (Math Lab), and/or Online Tutoring Lab Refers any student who is having major difficulty to the assigned instructor or Math Lab Supervisor Assists in maintaining the regular functions of the Stem Lab (Math Lab) Attends any training sessions held for student staff Consults designated staff regarding questions about these or other responsibilities throughout the program Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Employees will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position. Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher Completion of one of the following with a grade of "B" or better: MAT 151 or higher, BIO 182 or higher, CHM 151 or higher, CIS 204 or higher, or PHY 112 or higher Completion of Reading or exception Students attending Cochise College on an F-1 Visa require full-time enrollment with a minimum of 12 credits per semester and six credits in the summer Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment Ability to work accurately, efficiently, and effectively with all types of data Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office, classroom or lab setting with appropriate climate controls. Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem solving skills are important Reports to: Math Lab Supervisor
