The Police Corporal position is under the general direction of a Police Sergeant, and is responsible for the supervision of commissioned and civilian personnel who are in public safety related services and activities in the Police Sergeant's absence, and for operational functions during an assigned shift. This role performs a variety of law enforcement and supervisory tasks required to ensure effective and efficient operations. The selected candidate will serve as a "working corporal" and is actively involved in daily policing activities, as well as leading and mentoring Department members. The Police Corporal performs other supervisory and administrative duties, and other work as directed. The selection process will include: An application/ professional history review, a written test, practical exercise(s), performance reviews and panel interview. This role is open to internal candidates only and will close on Tuesday, July 22nd at Noon. Current City of Louisville Police Officers are eligible to apply. Corporal Step 1: $ 47.07 hourly/ $97,905.60 annually Corporal Step 2: $ 49.43 hourly/ $102,814.40 annually Corporal Step 3: $ 51.90 hourly/ $107,952.00 annually Corporal Step 4: $ 54.49 hourly/ $113,339.20 annually Knowledge of: Police principles and practices Supervisory skills and practices Emergency medical and first aid practices Supervisory and leadership principles and practices Laws, applicable ordinances, and court decisions Weapons and police-related equipment Skill in: Identifying, collecting, and preserving evidence Operating motor vehicles in hazardous situations Using weapons and the use of other police equipment to include police radios and telephones Communication with subordinates Directing and managing programs The use of a personal computer and applications programs Ability to: Work effectively with the news media, the community, and other agencies and organizations Analyze data and make decisions Initiate and maintain productive communications and cooperation Evaluate program effectiveness Graduation from an accredited law enforcement training academy Active Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification Current City of Louisville full-time Police Officer with a minimum of two (2) years of sworn law enforcement experience with a State, County, or Municipal law enforcement agency by time of appointment required Minimum of three (3) years of experience preferred Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Emergency Management, Business Administration, Management or Public Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred. LICENSE, REGISTRATION, OR CERTIFICATE: Active Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification Current driver's license in good standing with no major violations in the past three (3) years with the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver License within ninety (90) days of hire and must maintain good standing through employment OTHER NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates who receive a conditional offer may be subject to the following pre-employment screens: reference check, background check including motor vehicle record check, pre-placement physical, or other applicable screen related to the role. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, run; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands category is classified as Very Heavy (Exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects). The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and with explosives; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. Work involves a significant amount of time spent in a patrol vehicle, and a high degree of exposure to hazards and danger (from traffic hazards to the danger inherent in working with career criminals and emotionally unstable persons). Working conditions can be highly stressful. This position also involves shift work, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
