Department: SASP Support Time Type: Part time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Description: The Peer Academic Assistant position is designed to support student-athletes' academic success by providing one-on-one coaching in study skills, monitoring progress, and assisting with access to campus resources in coordination with SASP staff. Summary: The Peer Academic Assistant position is designed to support student-athletes' academic success by providing one-on-one coaching in study skills, monitoring progress, and assisting with access to campus resources in coordination with SASP staff. Responsibilities: Support individualized academic plans created by Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) staff in a supervised study hall session with a specific case load of student-athletes. Monitor the student-athletes' academic progress each session. Maintain detailed notes outlining what student-athletes accomplished in the supervised study hall period, updating SASP staff appropriately. Assist student-athletes in developing effective study skills and academic habits in the areas of time management, study strategies, critical reading skills, note-taking, test-taking, etc. Recommend and assist student-athletes in obtaining and utilizing campus resources (Tutoring, Writing Center, Math & Stat Lab, Library, faculty office hours, etc.). Meet weekly with supervisor (Director, Student-Athlete Support). Provide support to SASP projects, as needed. Other duties as assigned. Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work: Part-Time. 15-20 hours per week. The position duration is for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 Semesters. Salary Range: $18.50-$19 per hour. Required Education and Experience: Currently enrolled American University degree-seeking student. Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines. Familiarity with academic skills development (time management, study strategies, critical reading skills, etc). Familiarity with basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.). Maintain satisfactory academic progress and 3.0 GPA throughout your degree program. Preferred Education and Experience: Knowledge of and prior work experience in academic support or education. Teaching or academic tutoring experience in a one-on-one or group setting. Additional Information: Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a resume or CV.
