The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Dispatcher I for the Wyoming Highway Patrol Dispatch Program in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Wyoming Highway Patrol is committed to providing a safe and efficient transportation system for the state. This position offers a $2,000 hiring bonus. The job requires calm and accurate processing of information, sometimes during high-stress or emergencies. WHP dispatchers provide the vital communications link between the public and emergency services, ensuring law enforcement officers receive the necessary assistance and backup. Human Resource Contact: Keri Long * 307-777-4104 * Keri.Long@wyo.gov Essential functions include: Passing each phase of training Completing classroom and on-the-job training Learning basic knowledge, fundamentals, and procedures of law enforcement dispatching Completing on-the-job training under supervision Developing an experience base that compliments formal classroom training Progressing to a level where constant supervision is no longer required Performing the next level's duties in an evaluation status Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants exhibiting highly desired attributes such as good communication and people skills, attention to detail, good memory retention, familiarity with computers, and strong typing ability. Must be a US Citizen. Knowledge of basic law enforcement principles, criminal justice agencies, multi-jurisdictional boundaries, codes, and FBI policies is required. Minimum qualifications include 1-3 years of progressive work experience in dispatch or an associate's degree. Necessary special requirements include: Ability to work shifts, holidays, and weekends Physical ability to hear and record messages transmitted over radio, telephone, or similar devices Notes: FLSA: Non-Exempt Candidates typically qualify to promote to a Dispatcher II within two years Applicants must not have driving privilege suspensions within three (3) years of the test date Applicants will be subject to a thorough background investigation, including a credit check and psychological, polygraph, medical, and drug testing Applicants must pass an FBI fingerprint check and must not have any felony convictions or indictments Applicants must not have used marijuana within one (1) year of the test date Applicants must not have used any other controlled substance within three (3) years of the test date Must be a US Citizen The Wyoming Department of Transportation and Wyoming Highway Patrol are Drug-Free Workplaces E-Verify: WYDOT uses E-Verify, an Internet-based system, to confirm the eligibility of all newly hired employees to work in the United States Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus include: temporary employees accepting a part-time permanent position, current employees accepting a promotional opportunity, one year of service to WYDOT, internal candidates required to remain in the position for one year, and eligibility for one hiring bonus in a 12-month period
