Adjunct Professor

The Humanities Department at Simmons University seeks an adjunct professor to teach one section of a history course entitled "Understanding Islam and Historical Perspective" during the Fall 2025 semester. The course is scheduled to run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:50pm, is capped at 25 students, and is typically taught as a combination of lecture and discussion. Course Title and Description: HIST231: Understanding Islam and Historical Perspective Description: The course examines Islamic society from its beginning to the modern period. Covering issues such as the rise of Islam in the Arabian peninsula, the creation of Islamic dynasties, and the establishment of Islamic law, the class familiarizes students with a wide range of topics and diverse chronological periods, with an emphasis on connections between Islamic societies and other parts of the world. Outings will be arranged to sites in and around Boston to explore rich collections of Islamic art and culture, and guest speakers will be brought in to provide different points of view on issues related to Islam and the West. Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or be an advanced PhD candidate) in History or related discipline and possess a commitment to excellence in teaching.
