Job Title
Responsible for securing, storing, disposing and/or destroying items or evidence seized by the Garland Police Department according to State and Federal laws and department procedures. Also responsible for researching lost and found property and releasing items to owners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following. Other Duties May Be Assigned
Maintain property room(s) and arrange the storage and return of evidence and/or recovered stolen, found, or abandoned property.
Update and maintain records to document evidence released, in motion and disposed of including property, drugs and videos.
Scan all documents related to seized or collected evidence, property, etc to electronic format for ongoing transference of information.
Coordinate the proper release of evidence and property to rightful owners where appropriate.
Prepare unreturnable items for proper disposal according to department policies and procedures, court orders, federal laws, and state statutes.
Coordinate the processing, management, release, auction and disposal of impounded vehicles and the collection or distribution of monetary fees associated with the intake, management and disposal of these vehicles.
Prepare, locate and pull evidence for officers and attorneys for use in court.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D No experience required
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications
Some college course work
1-2 years experience in Police evidence rooms
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Basic understanding of inventory principles and practices
Basic knowledge of property storage principles and procedures
Basic knowledge of law enforcement evidentiary procedures and practices
Basic skill in utilizing business software, including Microsoft Office and inventory software
Skill at accurately scanning documents and indexing
Ability to establish and maintain a computerized property inventory system
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license
