Senior Product Engineer

Headquartered in Fort Wayne, IN, WaterFurnace designs and manufactures ultra-efficient, renewable-energy comfort products that provide heating, cooling and potable hot water solutions for use in both homes and commercial buildings. We employ more than 345 people in R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Sales roles across the US and Canada. For almost four decades, our Geothermal Heat Pumps, Water Source Heat Pumps, and Heat Recovery Chillers have been reducing energy usage consumption and increasing comfort in buildings around the world. Job Summary

A senior product engineer is responsible for design & development activities concerned with the specification, design, testing, and simulation of residential water source heat pump systems. This includes all aspects of the project including design creation, change management during development, design for manufacturability, product cost, performance, quality, reliability, completion of design deliverables to the project schedule, etc. In addition, the senior product engineer works with the residential engineering manager and the product marketing team to create and maintain the development schedule. Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added): Design and development of standard and advanced refrigeration cycles. Utilizes software tools such VapCyc, CoilDesigner, MS Excel, and other analytic software packages to perform parametric studies, DOE, and other component or system performance modeling research. Management and approval of changes to the design throughout the design process from concept generation through release of all design deliverables. Following accepted design and review practices, including DFMEA, design reviews utilizing cross-functional teams, and others as specified in Product Development process. Ensure the design is capable of meeting agreed-to reliability, quality, and performance requirements. Generating cost targets and estimates for the design to ensure the design meets the agreed-to cost goals. Creation and delivery of all required design deliverables. Planning and maintaining the development schedule with the product marketing team and other cross-functional team members. Utilize Teamcenter PLM for change management and technical literature release. Provide design feedback to CAD designers on physical layout and construction of product design. Develop and maintain relationships with the external customer value chain, including management, engineering, integration, and end-customers Benchmark competitive products and applications. Assist in the creation and maintenance of technical product literature. Lead Design Failure Modes Effects and Analysis (FMEA) on 6 Gate projects. Keep abreast of industry standards such as ASHRAE, AHRI, DOE, and other organizations as it pertains to HVAC & specifically water-source heat pumps. Knowledge of ISO 13256-1 and 13256-2 is preferred Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (or technical discipline) and at least 7 years of experience in product development is required. Master's Degree or Advanced degree/research in related fields is a plus. 5+ years of experience in design and development of standard and advanced refrigeration cycles. Key Competencies:

Short and long-term interest in refrigerant system and component modeling using VapCyc, CoilDesigner, Strong mechanical design, analytical skills, and "hands-on" hardware experience. Must be an effective team player with the ability to work with cross-functional groups. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Experience using project management software such as Microsoft Project is desired. Field experience with HVAC equipment is beneficial. Design for Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification is a plus. Team based Structured Problem Solving using 8D or similar process Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) supporting design trade-off and optimization Knowledge and Experience with ASHRAE, AHRI, DOE, and other industry related Standards.
