Senior Scientist, Bioscience
Are you ready to make a significant impact in the field of bioscience? AstraZeneca is seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Bioscience Metabolism group within the Early Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism department. This role demands a deep understanding of in vivo pharmacology in rodent models related to obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and MASH. Your expertise in obesity and weight management, including appetite and energy regulation within the CNS, will be crucial. If you have experience with various drug modalities and ex vivo lab techniques such as tissue gene expression, ELISAs, and western blot analysis, we want you on our team! You'll be at the forefront of experimental work, designing, executing, and interpreting preclinical data. Present your findings at group meetings and scientific conferences and collaborate across departments to drive innovation. Accountabilities Highly proficient in working with rodent models of obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and MASH
hands-on expertise in animal handling, dosing (SC, ICV, IV, PO, and IM), and necropsy tissue collections. Preclinical rodent surgical expertise including ICV cannulation via stereotaxic technique, SC Alzet pump implantation, and telemetry expertise. Experience with rodent tissue histopathology processing (H+E, IHC). Independently execute ex vivo analysis of blood/tissue samples including qPCR gene expression, Western blots, and ELISAs. Strong teamwork skills and experience working in a cross-functional team. Take part in all experimental work, including the design, analysis, and interpretation of data from these experiments. Prepare and present scientific data to in vivo group and project team meetings. Work in a cross-functional project team with responsibility for making decisions and recommendations for program in vivo pharmacology plans. Maintain an understanding of the scientific basis of the eCVRM project pipeline to successfully execute experiments needed to meet project requirements. Participate in collaborations related to specific projects. Raise the scientific profile of CVRM externally through publishing data in peer-reviewed journals and by presenting at conferences. Contribute to CVRM animal model work and/or development including areas of obesity, dyslipidemia, CV. Act as in vivo bioscience lead for drug discovery projects in metabolism disease area. Propose and champion new targets and novel approaches for disease treatment. Execution of metabolism in vivo assays including GTTs, ITTs, and measurement food intake.
