Nurse Practitioner

Part One: Dimension and Description Primary Purpose:

To deliver medical care in accordance with clinic policies and procedures as guidelines for medical management of health problems (patient care protocols) as an extension of a collaborative (supervisory) physician. Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:

Formally responsible for making recommendations regarding policies associated with the job's purpose and essential responsibility. Routine Decision Making:

Determines appropriate care of patients following guidelines of collaborative practice agreement. Formal Supervisory Responsibility:

No formal supervisory responsibility. Required Knowledge:

Basic coding knowledge, acceptable level of patient care. Required Skills and Ability:

Ability to provide good patient care; take basic vital signs; communication and technical skills; ability to dispense medication; review test results; and perform basic laboratory procedures. Unusual Working Conditions:

Risk of blood, body fluid contamination. Education and Certification/Registration Required for the Position:

Two to four-year RN degree; currently licensed in the state of Missouri; ACLS/BLS certification required; PALS preferred, FNP required. Age Specific Competencies:

Provides care for birth to pediatric (birth-2 yrs.), pediatric/child patients between (2 yrs-12 yrs); adolescent patients between 12 to 18 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older. Part Two: Essential Responsibilities and Tasks A. Provides Patient Care 1. Provides friendly professional care to every patient. 2. Manages primary, secondary, and tertiary care conditions as outlined in the collaborative practice. 3. Documents all patient encounters accurately, completely, and legibly every day. 4. All charts are completed daily and returned to medical records. 5. Properly completes ICD-9 and CPT codes on the encounter form. 6. Performs procedures and minor surgery's according to the collaborative practice agreement. 7. Orders lab work, diagnostic studies, x-rays, and therapies according to the collaborative practice agreement. 8. Every patient is notified of all diagnostic results. 9. Writes all prescription drugs accurately and legibly. 10. Logs all sample drugs dispensed on the log according to clinic policy. 11. Instructions are given to patients for each sample drug dispensed. 12. Appropriately and clearly communicates orders/instructions to nurses to carry out. 13. Provides care weekly at nursing homes. 14. Nursing home encounters are documented and submitted to clinic manager for billing weekly. B. Operates Under Collaborative Practice Guidelines 1. Ensures 10% or a minimum of 10 patient charts be reviewed by the physician bi-weekly. 2. Maintains log of the reviewed charts and the physician's comments. 3. Documents all telephone calls or face to face consultation/communication to discuss patient care between the FNP and physician. 4. Scores 100% compliance on medical record reviews. 5. Reviews and revises policies and procedures as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer. C. Actively Participates in Clinic Operations 1. Pursuant to the employment contract, is available in the office to provide direct patient care at least 36 hours and work at least 4 hours completing paperwork and related to administrative tasks, for a minimum of 40 hours per work. 2. Produces (visit volume) at the 50 th

percentile of MGMA for a nurse practitioner. 3. Utilizes the 'patient access' theory in seeing patientsthat is see the patient when the patient wants to be seen. 4. Attends and participates in monthly provider meetings. 5. Gives input to clinic manager for capital and operations budgets. 6. Provides input for overall operations, cost savings, revenue enhancements, and improved efficiency. 7. Participates in process improvement activities, as needed. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. x Seeing: Obtaining impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, color, or other characteristics of objects. x Acuity, far - clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. x Acuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. x Depth perception - ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. x Field of vision - area seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed. x Accommodations - adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. x Color vision- the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Qualifications Experience working as a qualified nurse practitioner in a family practice clinic.
