This position will be responsible for the development and oversight of Levine’s Voice Department, which provides a comprehensive music education of both private and group instruction to students with a broad range of abilities, backgrounds, and ages; and provides supervision to the members of their faculty. The position requires both administrative and teaching responsibilities.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Faculty
- Oversee hiring process for new voice faculty.
- Schedule and lead regular department meetings with voice faculty.
- Connect voice faculty with professional development and mentorship opportunities both inside and outside of Levine.
- Supervise voice faculty and oversee the faculty evaluation process, including observations and written feedback.
- Students
- Meet with prospective families as part of the New Student Placement process and match students with voice faculty for trial lessons.
- Oversee student transfer requests.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive student recruitment and retention plan for the department.
- Classes
- Working with faculty, develop group and ensemble classes as part of the voice department continuum.
- Oversee development of curriculum utilized by the voice department for lessons and classes.
- Monitor enrollments and class details in ActiveNet, Levine’s current registration system.
- Performance
- Determine structure for performance week activities and evaluation of student progress.
- Recruit and schedule guest artists to provide master classes, workshops, and performances for voice students.
- Schedule and execute departmental recitals and other performance experiences for students.
- General
- Working with Education Team, create a departmental budget and oversee implementation over the course of the fiscal year.
- Meet on a regular basis with Senior Director of Music Education.
- Attend Faculty Council Meetings and other chair meetings as requested.
- Required to maintain a studio of students and teach a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Master’s degree in specific discipline is required. A doctoral degree is preferred.
- Candidate should have strong administrative and teaching experience (supervisory experience in a music institution is a plus) and be committed to teaching students of all ages with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds in private and group class settings.
- Community music school experience preferred.
- Ability to work collegially but independently.
- Ability to think strategically.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working in a digital environment required. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
- A minimum of 15-20 hours of teaching load guaranteed, at Core Status.
- 20-25 administrative hours needed.
- Benefits eligible at 17.5 hours.
