Description This is a professional position that is primarily responsible for offering a varied curriculum of programs and services to the inmates.
Organization: • Reports to the Training Lieutenant and does not supervise any personnel. Special Instructions to Applicants
Essential Functions: • Seek out, research and present to facility leadership partnership opportunities with organizations offering a range of classes, programs and services to assist inmates both while incarcerated, as well as with post-incarceration transitions to the community, job training, housing assistance and mental health support. • Comply with state and local laws as well as facility rules and regulations regarding the administration of inmate programs. • Respond to inmate requests in a timely manner, access inmate eligibility for inquiring program. • Prepare and update attendance sheets and schedules for all programs. Update program statistics weekly. • Coordinate specific program needs with instructors and volunteers. Verify that instructors and volunteers have all necessary items to conduct class. • Conduct 'on the spot' classroom visits weekly to ensure programs are operating in an efficient manner. • Allocate and record expenses to appropriate funds, to include preparing time sheets for per diem instructors. • Determine program needs and submit purchase requisitions. • Confirm the numbers are 'to standard' with the Substance Use Program as well as monitoring of the program. • Review and process volunteer applications and evaluate for approval. Conduct orientation to include review of volunteer handbook and policy policies and procedures. • Prepare and update volunteer data, records and identification badges annually. • Maintain program related American Correctional Association (ACA) files. • Distribute and collect inmate program sign up forms in accordance with schedule from units. • Ensure that recreational aids are distributed to housing units, such as games and basket/soccer balls. Replace worn or damaged items in an expedient manner, along with ordering and maintaining replacement equipment. • Maintain unit reward stations for designated units. Ensure all replacements are on hand for rotation and inventory. • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Emergency Standard Operating Procedures (ESAOP) (escapes, duress alarms, fire extinguishers, ASE 30 smoke hood, etc.). Personnel must know the location of these items and when they are to be utilized. • Ensure the area is secure and document all pertinent information. • Understand and implement safety protocols when dealing with inmates. • Maintain current program trends throughout the state and other jurisdictions. • Demonstrate professional and courteous relations with staff, guests, inmates and the public. • Assist and perform any duties assigned by Supervisor.
