This Algorithm Engineer position works out of the Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We're revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our FreeStyle Libre family of sensor systems. This Algorithm Engineer position is responsible for participating in the algorithm development of new products. Assists with finding solutions to product development problems of defined scope. Participates in system level design documentation and requirements specification. Provides specialized functions such as algorithm development, user interface development, and data analysis methodology. Develops and follows specialized procedures in executing experiments, evaluation and documentation of results. Develops working relationships with cross functional groups and senior/executive management. What You'll Work On: Participate in algorithm development and synthesis, incorporating mathematical models and optimizing design processes. Perform discovery analysis to advance knowledge relevant to sensor algorithm development. Participate in product definition, system architecture, requirements writing, requirements management, requirements analysis, risk analysis, hazard analysis, product test and evaluation, System V & V, and/or design control documentation. Collect, organize, analyze, and document test results. Participate in the integration of analytical and performance-related elements with software, hardware, and electronics system components. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline. Minimum 4 years of product development experience in Engineering or physical science. Experience credit for advanced degrees beyond BS (2 years for Master's; 1-2 years for Doctorate). Good working knowledge of MATLAB. Solid knowledge of general engineering/science principles. Experience with system identification/stochastic modeling and algorithm development for sensor systems through FDA clearance or approval. Preferred: A master's degree or a PhD is ideal. Experience in the medical device space, ideally within diabetes or other metabolic diseases. Experience creating mathematical models of biological dynamics &/ electrochemical systems by reconciling clinical data and first principles by system identification methods. Experience prototyping algorithm ideas in MATLAB and synthesizing the final algorithm for implementation in embedded systems. Demonstrated prior contributions in synthesizing algorithms for real-time sensor systems (e.g., continuous glucose monitoring systems) and involvement in algorithm development support towards regulatory clearance of sensor products. Signal processing or equivalent discipline that operates on real-time signals to create an estimate robust from outliers, system faults, and various uncertainties. The base pay for this position is $86,700.00
