Job Description: Applications Engineer
Position Summary
The Applications Engineer is a key member of the U.S. technical team, responsible for supporting customer-facing engineering activities from pre-sales solution design through installation, training, and post-sales support. This role acts as a bridge between the Sales, Technical Support, and Engineering teams, ensuring that customer requirements are clearly translated into workable system solutions. The Applications Engineer will lead technical demonstrations, design application layouts, support integration, and ensure successful deployment of client’s automation and robotics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Engineering & Solution Development
- Collaborate with Sales and Technical Support to analyze customer requirements and propose technical solutions - Design preliminary application layouts and equipment configurations based on project specs - Prepare technical proposal documents, system descriptions, and diagrams - Support bidding, quoting, and customer Q&A processes - Conduct on-site or remote technical presentations and product demonstrations
Project Execution & Customer Delivery
- Coordinate with HQ and U.S. teams to review finalized project scope and technical requirements - Assist with equipment installation, calibration, and site acceptance testing (SAT) - Provide on-site and virtual customer training and documentation - Troubleshoot system issues during commissioning and act as point-of-contact for technical resolution
Product Expertise & Internal Collaboration
- Maintain deep knowledge of client’s product line, integration capabilities, and software platforms - Provide feedback to product, R&D, and HQ engineering teams regarding customer needs and market fit - Support ongoing improvement of technical documents, manuals, and training tools
Customer Engagement & Technical Support
- Serve as the customer’s technical advocate from project handoff through post-installation - Coordinate with third-party service providers or vendors when applicable - Ensure follow-up on customer satisfaction, warranty support, and future service needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field - 2+ years of experience in applications engineering, automation, robotics, or systems integration - Strong customer communication and problem-solving skills - Ability to read technical drawings, CAD layouts, and control schematics - Willingness to travel for customer site visits, demos, and installations
Attributes
- Experience with industrial robots, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), or warehouse automation systems - Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, vision systems, or motion control components - Experience in bilingual environments or collaborating with China-based engineering teams - Mandarin ability is a plus, but not required
