Lead Teaching Artist
to guide 25 teenage apprentices through high-impact public art commissions. What Makes This Role Unique •

Leadership opportunity : Manage a team of up to 3 studio assistants while developing the next generation of creative professionals •
Competitive compensation : $35/hour for 30-35 hours/week (approximately $42,000-49,000 annually) •
Professional growth : Build your portfolio with large-scale public art projects while making a difference Your Mission As our Lead Teaching Artist, you'll be the driving force behind The Apprentice Program (TAP), where art meets workforce development. You'll design and deliver comprehensive visual arts curriculum that prepares teens for creative careers while completing meaningful community projects. Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership
• Deliver high-quality arts, career, and life skills training to up to 25 apprentices • Implement visual arts curriculum within our Advancing Youth Development framework • Manage and mentor a team of 3 studio assistants Project Management
• Oversee MCDOT public art commission completion (primary focus for contract year) • Manage client relationships and document artwork production • Coordinate project timelines and deliverables Education & Development
• Design curriculum tailored to diverse high school-aged creatives • Provide 1:1 advisory support and professional development guidance • Prepare apprentices for workforce entry and technology adoption Community Engagement
• Lead annual recruitment and selection process • Represent Arts on the Block at community events • Build partnerships with local arts and education networks What You Bring
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree OR equivalent professional experience in related field • Significant experience with commissioned and public art projects • Proven track record designing/implementing visual arts curricula for teens • Strong leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations Ideal Candidate Profile
• Teaching artist with public art experience • Youth development or workforce development background • Experience managing teams and complex projects • Passion for social impact through arts education • Familiarity with government/municipal project requirements Work Environment
Location : Mosaic Studio, 900 Wayne Avenue, Suite 1A, Silver Spring, MD
Schedule : Monday-Saturday, 10 AM-6 PM (flexible within operational hours)
Transit : Metro accessible (Silver Spring Station), parking available
