Overview
Under the direction of the Chief Assistant Attorney General and the administrative oversight of the Chief Deputy Attorney General, the Senior Assistant Attorney General is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work of staff. This includes supervising Deputy Attorney General Supervisors and attorneys in the Appeals, Writs, and Trials Section in the San Diego Office, as well as professional staff engaged in legislative affairs, legal research, training activities, and special projects involving all levels of government. The role also involves overseeing law enforcement and support personnel involved in criminal investigation and prosecution. Additional duties include representing the Attorney General or testifying before courts, the Legislature, the Governor's Office, other government agencies, and the public; advising on matters of crime for investigation and prosecution; and serving as a key legal policy advisor to the Attorney General on issues affecting the Department of Justice.

Desirable Qualifications: In addition to evaluating experience quality and breadth, the following factors will be used for competitive evaluation: Practical knowledge of trial and appellate court procedures related to criminal appellate and habeas corpus litigation, investigations, and prosecutions. Leadership ability and supervisory experience. Effective interaction with district attorneys, law enforcement, and other agencies and department members. Experience coordinating legal work for large teams in criminal law. Experience developing criminal law policies in a governmental setting. Knowledge of policies and practices of a criminal prosecution agency.
