The Section Lead at Mathnasium is a hybrid role combining instructional excellence with leadership in center operations. This role is ideal for individuals who are especially confident and enthusiastic about working with elementary-aged students. The Section Lead not only delivers engaging and effective math instruction using the Mathnasium Method but also helps oversee key academic and administrative functions of the center. This includes managing learning plans, organizing student materials, supporting remediation, and addressing student behavior in a way that fosters growth and confidence. The Section Lead ensures a smooth flow of instruction and serves as a role model and point of contact for younger learners. Core Responsibilities
Instructional Duties
Deliver math instruction using the Mathnasium Method with a focus on primary and elementary-level content. Build rapport with younger students, keeping sessions engaging, upbeat, and developmentally appropriate. Monitor and document student progress with clear, detailed instructor notes and mastery checks. Reinforce attention and motivation through positive encouragement and interactive teaching. Adapt instruction to meet the varying needs of elementary-level learners, including remediation and enrichment. Administrative & Leadership Duties
Maintain and update student learning plans for assigned section, ensuring accuracy and alignment with student progress. Oversee organization and distribution of student materials, including binders, workbooks, and manipulatives. Provide targeted remediation support to struggling students, especially those at or below grade level. Address and redirect student behaviors constructively; implement center behavior protocols for younger learners. Support transition and onboarding of new students in lower grade levels by setting routines and expectations. Collaborate with management and instructors to ensure smooth daily operations and instructional consistency in the younger grade section. Instructor Characteristics
Elementary-Level Math Expert
Strong skills and confidence in teaching through at least Grade 5 math, including number sense, fractions, word problems, and early algebraic thinking. Kid-Friendly and Engaging
Enjoys working with young children and uses a warm, playful, and patient approach to build trust and spark joy in math learning. Organized and Observant
Keeps learning plans updated, monitors multiple students at once, and makes thoughtful instructional decisions based on observed needs. Professional and Positive
Communicates clearly and kindly with parents, students, and staff; models respectful behavior and positive problem-solving. Section Leader
Takes initiative in managing a group of students, supporting team flow, and guiding younger instructors when needed. Daily Tasks May Include:
Teaching early math concepts in a way that is interactive and confidence-building Reviewing and updating elementary students' binders and progress Providing support for struggling or shy students Managing transitions and behavior expectations in the lower grade section Preparing or modifying materials to support specific student needs Maintaining a clean and welcoming learning area for young learners Collaborating with the center director on curriculum needs, new strategies, or student concerns Participating in staff development and team training Compensation: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
