Overview
Associate Dean of Clinical Research.
With a longstanding reputation for excellence in patient care, biomedical innovation, and academic rigor, Tulane School of Medicine is poised to elevate its clinical research enterprise to new heights. This is a transformational opportunity to shape the future of clinical and translational research across one of the South’s premier academic medical centers - located in the dynamic and culturally rich city of New Orleans. Reporting directly to Dr. Lee Hamm, Senior Vice President and Dean of the School of Medicine, the Associate Dean will serve as a key member of the medical school’s executive leadership team. This individual will lead the development and execution of a strategic plan for clinical and translational research that drives growth, strengthens external partnerships, and enhances Tulane’s regional and national impact. In collaboration with leadership across the Tulane health system and university, the Associate Dean will advance a unified and forward-thinking research agenda rooted in clinical excellence, innovation, and community relevance. A primary responsibility of this role is the strategic growth and development of the Tulane Center for Clinical Research (TCCR). The Associate Dean will oversee TCCR’s evolution into a leading research hub capable of managing the full continuum of clinical trials - from early-phase to large-scale, federally and industry-sponsored studies. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening Tulane’s visibility and competitiveness in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, with particular attention to aligning the research enterprise with institutional priorities and community health needs. Tulane’s clinical research efforts are undergoing an exciting transformation as its clinical operations become increasingly integrated with LCMC Health, a growing regional health system that includes East Jefferson Hospital, University Medical Center, and other affiliated sites across Southeast Louisiana. Within this rapidly evolving ecosystem, the Associate Dean will build meaningful collaborations with academic departments, affiliated hospitals, and community-based providers to promote a cohesive, high-performing research infrastructure. A core focus will be the expansion of interdisciplinary research programs, and the strengthening of investigator support systems to ensure consistent, high-quality trial execution. The ideal candidate will hold an MD, MD/PhD, PhD, DO, DNP, or equivalent terminal degree, and will qualify for academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at Tulane University. They will bring a distinguished record of funded clinical and translational research, with demonstrated leadership experience in a complex, matrixed academic medical setting. The successful candidate will have a strong background in developing strategic research plans, managing multidisciplinary teams, and cultivating partnerships with industry and federal sponsors. They will possess a visionary approach to program growth, with the ability to expand research initiatives, enhance faculty mentorship, and elevate Tulane’s national and international profile in clinical research.
