Title: Associate Director of Operations and Business Development Department: York Center for Envir Engr and Sci Reports To: Dist Professor Position Type: Staff Position Summary: The position will support two centers: the Material Characterization Laboratories (MCL) housed within the Otto York Center, and the Microfabrication Innovation Center located at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. These centers are at the forefront of technological advancement, providing core resources for materials characterization, chemical analysis, and microfabrication. The MCL is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments tailored for material, chemical, and environmental analysis, including scanning electron microscopes, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The MIC is a comprehensive microfabrication facility with lithography and other tools. The Associate Director will oversee the technical aspects of MIC and manage the business and projects of both centers. Responsibilities: Work closely with the Otto York Center's Executive Director and the Associate Director of Business Development to develop and implement strategic business initiatives. Oversee and support the development of new clients, strengthen existing relationships, and increase the visibility of research programs. Lead business development, marketing, and outreach to industry and other customers for MCL, MIC, and DRL. Assess new markets, evaluate opportunities, and develop targeted strategies. Drive revenue generation through outreach to state agencies and companies, and establish partnerships. Coordinate with faculty, agencies, industry, and universities. Manage daily operations of MIC, including cleanroom and equipment. Handle financial transactions related to the centers. Create and distribute newsletters in collaboration with the Executive Director. Develop contracts and expand the external membership base. Identify and evaluate new markets and customers. Write grant proposals for funding opportunities. Develop training programs and organize industrial outreach. Create business plans, strategies for revenue, and marketing materials. Maintain the MCL website and develop social media presence. Develop sales projections and budgets for financial sustainability. Identify sponsorship and speaking opportunities, and manage participation and ROI. Perform other duties as needed. Qualifications: MS degree in a relevant field; PhD preferred. 3-5 years of experience in business development or industrial outreach. Experience in sales, marketing, client and vendor management. Understanding of laboratory operations, especially microfabrication and cleanroom management. Strong project management and organizational skills. Leadership, resourcefulness, problem-solving skills, and initiative. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications: Established relationships with state, federal, and private research stakeholders. Knowledge of laboratory facilities and contract research.
