Summary With overall direction from the Sr Director of Game Development, the Associate Game Designer conceptualizes, creates, refines, and optimizes the player experience for Upper Deck TCG initiatives, focusing on gameplay, card design, and overall game health. They create unique and innovative content in line with Upper Decks product strategy. The role involves working with a team of Game Developers, Brand Managers, and Project Managers to ensure the game is engaging, balanced, and enjoyable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Game Design: Develop new game ideas, rules, mechanics, and create new cards with unique effects and interactions. Gameplay Balancing: Ensure fairness and balance, avoiding overpowered or underpowered strategies. Playtesting: Test with players, gather feedback, and refine the design. Data Analysis: Use data to identify improvements and maintain game health. Industry Trends: Monitor TCG community trends to uphold product integrity. Innovation: Explore new engagement methods for players. Game Development: Provide feedback on components, card layout, and art design. Additional Responsibilities
Travel to conventions and events locally, nationally, or globally. Collaborate with the product development team and other departments as needed. Interaction
This position interacts closely with the Sr Director of Game Development, Game Development, Brand Management, Project Management, Finance, Purchasing, Operations, Graphic Design, and Sales teams. Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Product Development, Design, or related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years experience with TCG/CCG games and tabletop gaming. Professional experience in the tabletop gaming industry is a plus. Requirements
Passion for tabletop gaming and extensive TCG background. Knowledge of game design principles. Strong organizational and team collaboration skills. Ability to playtest and analyze feedback. Understanding of market trends and the TCG landscape. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel. Interest in pop culture is preferred. Ability to work independently, exercise discretion, and travel domestically and internationally. Additional Details
