About the Role The Automation Sales Engineer role is a pivotal component in growing CMA’s customer base by identifying and securing new business opportunities across key industrial markets. This individual will work closely with engineers, applications specialists, and executive stakeholders to deliver tailored automation solutions to manufacturing clients. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of industrial automation systems and a strong ability to connect with decision-makers to drive consultative, value-driven sales. Responsibilities Build and maintain strong relationships with customers in target industries to identify automation opportunities Develop and execute marketing outreach plans for assigned territory Manage a healthy opportunity pipeline and forecast, aligned to CMA’s strategic growth targets Collaborate with internal teams and strategic partners to co-develop and sell joint solutions Drive the full sales cycle—from prospecting and technical consultation to proposal development, contract negotiation, and order closure Target annual sales revenue of $5M in new business growth (Commission paid on sales revenue and margin) Focus technologies including (not limited to) Automation engineering services (controls, robotics, vision, electrical, mechanical) Collaborate with applications engineering and internal teams to develop tailored automation solutions and convert opportunities into orders Conduct on-site evaluations and recommend upgrades or new systems that improve operational efficiency Promote CMA’s full range of offerings, including custom automation equipment, robotics, controls design, material handling systems, and in-house fabrication capabilities Travel within primary regional territory (SC/NC/GA) with flexibility to pursue opportunities beyond the region, including internationally Qualifications The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of five years of successful sales experience in industrial automation, systems integration, or capital equipment. This role requires strong consultative sales skills and the ability to manage long sales cycles while effectively communicating complex technical solutions to a wide range of stakeholders. Required Skills Prior sales experience in automation engineering, integration, or automation equipment Familiarity with front-end engineering/design feasibility, simulation, and concept development Knowledge of common automation platforms, process control systems, and material handling technologies Excellent communication and technical and problem-solving skills Ability to relate technical information to non-technical customers Preferred Skills Prior automation equipment sales experience in related industries: Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Tire & Rubber, Food & Beverage, Chemical Manufacturing Strong experience in full sales cycle collaboration with highly technical subject matter experts Education Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred; Related experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. Compensation CMA offers an attractive compensation package that includes a competitive salary commensurate with experience. (Base salary plus commission on revenue and margin) Seniority level
