Summary Of Responsibilities
The vice president, legal is responsible for assisting with litigation, compliance, contract, and corporate governance matters. Specifically, this role assists with all aspects of the litigation process, including the initiation of a case, discovery, trial, post-trial proceedings, and appeals.
Primary Responsibilities And Objectives
Supervise outside counsel in litigation matters, including obtaining status reports, confirming that dates and deadlines are satisfied, confirming that outside counsel implements the litigation strategy, and tracking outside counsel fees and expenses Serve as a liaison between outside counsel and Avenue5 associates with respect to litigation, specifically including providing status updates to the Avenue5 executive team, coordinating discovery, and engaging Avenue5 executives on litigation strategy Assist outside counsel in preparation for trials and hearings, including obtaining exhibits, identifying witnesses, gathering supporting documents, and coordinating trial logistics Draft, review, revise, and negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers, and others; work with Avenue5 associates during the negotiation process Review Avenue5 policies and procedures with respect to the changing legal landscape Provide advice and counsel on operational and general legal matters Research and provide guidance regarding state brokerage requirements, including matters relating to licensing, property account and accounting requirements, and requirements in property management agreements Participate in projects to identify federal, state, and local laws applicable to property management and identify opportunities to improve compliance with those laws Prepare and maintain corporate governance documents Perform other duties as assigned
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree Doctor of Jurisprudence degree Active admission to a state bar Minimum 2 years’ experience as a licensed lawyer
Skills And Requirements
Comfortable engaging with associates throughout Avenue5, including property managers, regional managers vice presidents, and executives Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills Understands complex legal concepts and terminology Knowledge of federal court rules and procedures, and the skills to find and understand those in other jurisdictions Knowledge of federal PACER docketing systems Ability to perform legal research Understanding of the pleading and discovery processes Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to perform under tight deadlines and maintain patience in high-pressure situations Must manage highly confidential information with professionalism and unquestionable integrity Required to complete and successfully pass the Avenue5 Fair Housing and Preventing Discrimination and Harassment training and other courses, if assigned
Scheduling
Required to maintain a regular schedule which may require working outside business hours, weekends, and non-traditional holidays
Environment
Exposure to an environment typically found in an office building
