Position Overview
The SATCOM Technician is responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of satellite communication (SATCOM) systems at our teleport facility. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to support both day-to-day operations and emergency situations. The SATCOM Technician collaborates with NOC Technicians, Engineering team, vendors, and cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability and operational excellence. This position includes mentoring responsibilities and contributes to the continuous improvement of operational procedures.
Responsibilities
Maintain and troubleshoot RF, baseband, and SATCOM systems and equipment. Ensure uninterrupted satellite signal transmission and reception. Resolve issues involving satellite modems, up/down converters, and IP-based transport systems. Provide escalation support for complex or unresolved SATCOM issues. Collaborate with Tier I technicians and engineering team for efficient resolution of recurring or critical issues. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of configurations, incidents, and resolutions. Prepare maintenance logs, technical reports, and SOPs. Ensure documentation complies with internal standards and audit requirements. Train and mentor junior technicians on troubleshooting techniques and SOPs. Develop training content and lead sessions to strengthen team capabilities. Conduct routine audits and quality checks on SATCOM infrastructure. Assist engineering in planning and executing scheduled upgrades and maintenance windows. Participate in the development and review of SOPs and maintenance checklists. Provide on-call support as part of a rotating schedule. Respond to critical outages, performing rapid fault isolation and system recovery. Provide clear, professional updates during incident resolution. Contribute to internal reviews and improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications
Required
3–5 years of working experience in satellite communications, RF, or IT network support. Strong working knowledge of RF systems, satellite modems, IP networking, and system integration. Understanding of Linux and Windows-based systems. Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and time management skills. Experience using test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators and power meters.
Preferred
Hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and SNMP-based monitoring tools. Experience with teleport or broadcast operations.
