Chief Technology Officer Location Ithaca, NY Job Type Full-Time Start Date On or before October 1 Description CryoBio is a stealth startuppioneeringbio-based solutions to protect crops from frost and support sustainable food production in the face of widening climate disruption. Founded in early 2025 by two PhD scientists with expertise in deeptech commercialization, we've made substantial traction in technology over the last few months, along with extensive customer traction. We're proud to be backed by a leading climate deeptech VC, along with advisors and angels. We are now seeking a Chief Technology Officer
(CTO) to lead our technology and product development strategy. This role will involve guiding our technology from bench-scale to market-ready agricultural biotech product. As an early-stage startup with significant growth potential, this position offers the chance to make a real impact in the world and help shape the work culture and team make-up from day one. The candidate must be a motivated and well-organized individual, ready to take risks and grow with us. In addition, the candidate must bring experience in scaling low TRL technologies, organizing agricultural trials, and leading a team of scientists. Excellent attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work effectively within a growing team are essential. Past participation in fundraising activities and projects involving overseas stakeholders, especially in agriculture or biotech manufacturing, is an added bonus. Responsibilities: Building and managing the technology team, setting long-term and short-term R&D goals, and fostering a strong and collaborative team culture Defining, iterating, and improving on the technological roadmap to bring novel agricultural biotech products to market Overseeing product development, technology / commercial partnerships, and managing a proactive intellectual property strategy Working closely with other executives to align technology development with business objectives Minimum Qualifications: Advanced degree (Ph. D. preferred) in life sciences, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field Strong background in technology development and commercialization of biologicals or similar agricultural products Demonstrated ability to lead an R&D team and manage complex projects Eligible to work in the US with no restrictions Preferred Experience: Proven experience in senior technology leadership roles within the biotechnology, bioprotectant, or agricultural industry Experience in biomanufacturing/fermentation, as well as production scale-up Direct experience in organizing field trials, guiding products through the regulatory approvals process, and filing key tech patents Job Benefits: Our benefits package includes attractive stock options and a competitive salary that reflects our company's early stage.
