Senior CAD Designer/Drafter
to lead drafting efforts on government and defense programs, collaborating closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to deliver full-scale, production-ready systems. In this role, you will take ownership of 3D modeling, engineering drawing packages, and Bill of Materials (BOM) management, while maintaining accurate as-built documentation. You will also play a key role in drawing reviews, ensuring strict compliance with industry and customer standards, and overseeing design data control within a Product Data Management (PDM) system. Responsibilities: Lead creation and revision of 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks Translate reference materials, including photos, sketches, customer files, legacy drawings, and physical parts, into accurate CAD models Prepare detailed installation, assembly, and part drawings in line with industry and customer standards Generate and maintain documentation, including BOMs, wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical assembly drawings Ensure drawing accuracy and compliance with GD&T, ASME Y14.100, and customer requirements Create process diagrams, block diagrams, drawing trees, and technical illustrations for manuals, proposals, and presentations Manage design data and revisions in a PDM system (SolidWorks PDM preferred), ensuring proper document control Mentor junior drafters and designers, promoting best practices and standards compliance Drive process improvements for drafting workflows and documentation accuracy Ensure drawing packages are complete and production-ready for manufacturing handoff Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to meet project deadlines and quality standards Qualifications: Professional drafting experience in mechanical design; experience with simulation, aerospace, or defense systems is a plus Expert proficiency in SolidWorks; familiarity with AutoCAD is beneficial Strong working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.100 standards required Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems—SolidWorks PDM preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel for BOM management and reporting Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines Ability to read, interpret, and critically review engineering prints and design documentation Seniority level
