Job Description Job Duties: Facilitates the development and evaluation of new test procedures and protocols. Works with vendors and technical experts to evaluate instruments and materials during the implementationphase.
Assists the lab manager and director in preparing, reviewing, and revising the laboratory ‘sprocedure manual.
Maintains adequate test development records and helps in the preparation of manuscripts,abstracts, data collection and validation reports.
Implements, maintains, evaluates and monitors systems for continuous quality improvement andparticipates as necessary with the medical and administrative directors.
Performs problem solving and troubleshooting on laboratory instrument and test methodsindependently. Identifies source and nature of test problems and makes appropriaterecommendations as to resolution based on test theory and knowledge.
Performs highly complex procedures according to standardized operating procedures and policies, reports resultswithin established time frame and assures that quality control criteria are met. Will be cross-trainedin the lab to assist in other duties as specified by the manager and director.
Assists the lab manager and the appropriate lab director in complying with governmental,accreditation, and hospital standards to include CAP, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, and Joint Commission.Monitors compliance with safety procedures. Serves as back-up for CAP inspections.
Instructs, trains and ensures competence for high complexity procedures and testing
Completes competency testing and mandatory continuing education requirements as defined bythe position. Develops, coordinates, assesses and documents competency testing.
Maintains knowledge and utilizes resources to provide consultative, educational, technical, and informational services as needed to families, patients, medical and administrative directors, laboratory,medical and nursing staff.
In the absence of the manager or the coordinator, serves aseffective back-up for technical issues.
Assists the manager/coordinator in maintaining inventory control of laboratory supplies including reagents.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation,service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients,families, co-workers and others.
Other job functions as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: A BS, MS or PhD
degree with an emphasis in laboratory science is required.
Meets all regulatory requirements for high complexity testing.
Possess an excellent command of the English language; medical and scientific terminology is required.
Organizational skills: Ability to establish priorities and react promptly to a large variety of requestsand needs, sometimes in stressful situations.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory or a research environment is required with demonstration of progressive acceptable clinical or research laboratory experience.
Experience and application of relevant mathematical skills is required. Good computer skills andexperience with complex operating software applications is required.
Education Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Pay Range $31.50-$51.50 Hourly At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise.
