Overview
The Senior Network Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, standardizing, and maintaining complex network infrastructures to ensure optimal performance, security, and scalability. This role includes leadership of network engineering teams and close collaboration with IT leaders, Solutions/Enterprise Architects, and Infrastructure Project Managers to deliver strategic, high-performing network solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide governance across all network technologies and domains, ensuring architectural compliance.
- Design and architect scalable, secure, high-performance network solutions aligned with business and technical needs.
- Develop and maintain network strategies, standards, and methodologies.
- Lead the design and implementation of LAN, WAN, data center, and cloud network systems.
- Oversee the configuration and deployment of network hardware, software, and infrastructure components.
- Optimize networks for maximum performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Implement and manage network automation tools for provisioning and management.
- Enforce network security policies; perform audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability scans.
- Stay current with emerging security protocols and industry compliance standards.
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of network engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate with DevOps, cloud, and system administration teams to integrate network solutions.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning guidance.
- Establish and communicate infrastructure architecture designs and standards.
- Participate in IT vendor and risk assessments.
- Operate primarily in a Plan/Build/Operate model (80% Planning / 20% Build & Operate).
- Ensure architectural alignment with enterprise goals during all project phases.
- Monitor the current technology portfolio to identify aging infrastructure and technical debt.
- Define principles and standards to align architecture decisions with future-state vision.
- Maintain stable network operations, including installation, support, and optimization.
- Conduct research and make forward-looking infrastructure recommendations.
- Create and maintain documentation: network diagrams, configurations, manuals, and SOPs.
- Deliver regular network performance and incident reports to leadership.
- Provide technical leadership and foster a culture of accountability and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Analysis, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in designing and implementing enterprise network solutions.
- Proven expertise in data center environments (Cisco Nexus, VXLAN, ASR/ISR routers).
- Experience developing infrastructure strategies and performing TCO and ROI analyses.
- Skilled in translating business needs into technical architectures and financial estimates.
- Familiarity with managing technical debt and lifecycle management strategies.
- Strong communication skills—able to convey complex technical topics to all audiences.
- Extensive experience with technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Deep knowledge of IT network architecture standards, security, and compliance practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CCIE or CISSP certifications (Route & Switch or Data Center) or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of cloud networking experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- 5+ years with networking technologies: Load Balancers, SD-WAN, WLAN Controllers, NAC, Zero Trust.
- 3+ years with Cisco ACI or other SDN technologies.
- 2+ years with Zscaler products: ZIA, ZPA, Cloud Firewall, Private Access.
- Experience with security infrastructure: Cisco ASA, Meraki, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Zscaler.
- Familiarity with monitoring and SIEM tools: SolarWinds Orion, Splunk, Sentinel.
- Experience with QoS, multicast strategies, and packet analysis tools (NetFlow, IP SLA).
- Knowledge of Active Directory, SAN, and VMware environments.
- Experience with Cisco Unified Communications, UCaaS, and CCaaS cloud-based solutions.
