Commodity Buyer - Smart Home & IoT
Join the team that's helping power the connected home. As a Commodity Buyer for Smart Home & IoT, you will be responsible for sourcing Wi-Fi/Bluetooth modules, LCDs, and other smart home electronic componentsdriving cost savings and ensuring supply continuity across GE Appliances' connected products. This role is part of the Electronics Sourcing team and reports directly to the Director of Electronics Sourcing. You'll partner closely with internal teams and global suppliers to create and execute sourcing strategies, manage supplier performance, and strengthen our smart device supply chain. Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end supplier management, from strategic sourcing to performance evaluation and development.
- Identify and drive cost savings through supplier negotiations and value engineering initiatives.
- Develop and implement commodity strategies aligned with product roadmaps and company goals.
- Select and manage suppliers for new product introduction projects with a focus on stability, quality, cost, and performance.
- Collaborate with global sourcing teams and affiliates to ensure a diversified and competitive supply base.
- Build strong, transparent supplier relationships to support continuous improvement and alignment.
- Monitor and mitigate supplier risks to ensure uninterrupted supply.
- Stay ahead of market trends, pricing indices, and lead times to forecast and manage cost drivers.
- Adapt to evolving supply chain needs and take on new responsibilities as required.
Travel: Up to 10% domestic and international travel to supplier and affiliate sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in supply chain, commodity management, program management, or a similar field involving supplier selection, contract implementation, or negotiation.
- Skilled in ERP systems and proficient with Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
- Analytical thinker with proven project management abilities.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to act with urgency and optimism.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers in global regions, particularly in Asia and North America.
- Experience managing international suppliers.
- Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating across multicultural and cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of electronic components, bills of materials (BOMs), and product lifecycles.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
This role is full-time onsite at Appliance Park in Louisville, KY.
