Position: Fluid Systems Engineer – Heat Exchanger Design
We are seeking a driven and technically skilled
Fluid Systems Engineer
with specialized expertise in
heat exchanger design
to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is central to the development and optimization of heat exchangers across a variety of thermal systems, with an emphasis on performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in both
thermal-fluid analysis
and
mechanical design , along with experience working cross-functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, and thermal systems teams. This position will play a key role in advancing our
secondary cooling loop
and related thermal technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop various types of heat exchangers (e.g., shell-and-tube, plate-fin, air-cooled, printed circuit) from concept through prototype and production stages, tailored to system requirements.
Create detailed CAD models and production-ready manufacturing drawings using
Siemens NX .
Perform thermal-fluid simulations using tools such as
ANSYS Fluent ,
COMSOL , or proprietary software to evaluate heat transfer, pressure drop, and flow distribution.
Optimize designs for performance and efficiency, focusing on fin geometry, fluid path layout, and flow uniformity.
Incorporate
Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
principles early in the design process to ensure cost-effective, scalable solutions.
Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to assess component feasibility, manufacturing methods, and cost drivers.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including
ASME Section VIII .
Participate in regular design reviews and cross-disciplinary technical discussions.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Minimum of
3 years
of experience in heat exchanger or fluid component design in a high-performance hardware setting.
Proficient in 3D CAD tools (e.g.,
Siemens NX ,
SolidWorks , or equivalent).
Hands-on experience with simulation and analysis tools (e.g.,
STAR-CCM+, ANSYS , or similar).
Proven application of DFM principles in a product development environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
Qualifications:
Experience with
supercritical CO2
systems.
Background in designing
recuperators
or compact heat exchangers for
nuclear, aerospace , or high-temperature industrial applications.
Familiarity with
high-temperature materials
and fabrication methods such as
diffusion bonding
and
welding .
Working knowledge of relevant
ASME codes
for nuclear and thermal components.
Experience working closely with vendors during prototype manufacturing and design iteration.
Basic programming skills in
Python ,
C++ , or a similar .
