Conversational AI Specialist with Full Stack Engineering
expertise to support our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this role, you'll help improve access to healthcare, benefits, and services for millions of Veterans by designing and maintaining AI-powered virtual agent solutions across VA digital platforms. As a key member of a cross-functional agile team, you'll collaborate with designers, product managers, and government partners to build scalable, user-centered conversational interfaces. Your technical and strategic contributions will help Veterans get the support they need—faster, more accurately, and with dignity. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain full-stack conversational AI solutions, including front-end interfaces, back-end services, and integrations with VA systems. Develop and optimize conversational flows and natural language understanding (NLU) models for VA's virtual agents, ensuring interactions are accessible, compliant, and Veteran-centric. Create and manage training datasets derived from real user interactions to improve AI accuracy and responsiveness. Ensure accessibility compliance (Section 508) and alignment with VA digital standards. Integrate AI chatbots across multiple platforms, including VA.gov, mobile apps, and internal systems. Perform end-to-end quality assurance, usability testing, and “bot bashing” to proactively identify and resolve issues. Collaborate with VA stakeholders to refine business logic, escalation pathways, and content priorities. Measure and report performance metrics, including containment rates, task completion, and user satisfaction. Contribute to continuous improvement by staying informed on conversational AI trends, open source tools, and best practices in government technology. Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and agile ceremonies, contributing to a high-performing, mission-driven team. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
