Summary Under limited supervision, the Database Administrator III designs, configures, and manages databases to ensure the integrity, security, and accessibility of data. This role installs, administers, and provides problem-resolution support for system software and third-party productivity tools. May act as a lead or mentor to lower-level employees.
Job Duties
Designs, plans, and implements most aspects of database management and may develop expertise in areas such as data administration, web connectivity, physical and logical design, SQL programming, or overall architecture.
Communicates with business groups to evaluate and recommend software products for data management.
Configures database parameters, defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing needs.
Defines standards for physical data storage, maintenance, access, and security.
Assists with acquisition, installation, network configuration, deployment, and maintenance of database systems.
Ensures proper scheduling and completion of database backup and maintenance tasks.
Maintains database administration software, including third-party tools.
Monitors and tunes system performance for optimal reliability and cost-efficiency.
Develops, documents, implements, and maintains disaster recovery procedures.
Stays updated on latest trends in database support, management, and performance.
Acts as lead/mentor to other team members.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Typically requires a bachelor's degree and five or more years of related experience or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Broad knowledge of database principles, design, and configuration.
Strong problem-solving skills and understanding of relational database principles.
Experience with Oracle, Db2, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL, and z/OS.
Knowledge of Linux, Windows Server, Storage, Network, and Security.
Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery configurations.
Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams.
Physical Demands : Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation.
Certifications : None required.
