JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to join our team.. This newly created role will support all of Digital Core with a focus on AI for Operations, emphasizing use cases and anomaly detection. The ideal candidate will have strong data product architecture experience and strategy, not just ETL and data modeling tools. The environment is heavy on AWS but includes some Azure and on-premises infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
data architect is responsible for defining, designing, building, and maintaining the data architecture vision, strategy, and principles across the enterprise or a business function. They define standards for naming, describing, governing, managing, modeling, transforming, and searching all data within the enterprise or a business function. Data architects possess a deep working knowledge of how data is or will be used and implications on people, processes, capabilities, and technologies including analytics and data integrations. This role requires skills such as data modeling, data warehousing, data integration, data governance, and an understanding of data security, data standards, and cloud architecture principles. Data architects work closely with data producers, information management, data engineers, and data consumers.
- Work with business to identify future uses for Lilly data and anticipated business results, enabling processes to support these needs.
- Develop a technical strategy for future data structure and data integration.
- Develop and provide expertise in data relationships, data quality, understanding of business data needs, and associated technology toolsets and methodologies.
- Understand how enterprise data strategies, platforms, and technologies enable business execution. Use this knowledge to challenge the status quo and drive business collaborations.
- Analyze data from multiple domains, discover trends and associations, and synthesize new integration constructs to assist non-expert users in finding similar trends and associations.
- Facilitate efficient and scalable data exchange between the client and its external partners using industry standards and data integration methodologies.
- Use cutting edge information technologies to organize and analyze data.
- Extend publicly available data sets, ontologies, and taxonomies for internal client use.
- Continuously scan the technology environment for new trends and techniques; interface with external consultants and thought leaders as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated communication, leadership, teamwork, project delivery, and problem-solving skills. Experienced in architectural processes (e.g., blueprinting, reference architecture, governance). Understanding of external data standards (e.g., HL7, CDISC, SDTM) and external data vocabularies (e.g., MedDRA, RxNorm, SNOMED). Health care industry knowledge and business acumen.
- Experience leading large-scale portfolios and sophisticated high-demand customers. Ability to influence IT and business strategies to drive large-scale outcomes.
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related scientific discipline.
- 10+ years of experience designing large-scale data models for functional, operational, and analytical environments (Conceptual, Logical, Physical & Dimensional).
- 7+ years of experience in several of the following disciplines: statistical methods, data modeling, ontology development, semantic graph construction and linked data, relational schema design.
- Demonstrated SQL and data modeling proficiency.
- Experience with data modeling tools such as ER*Studio, Erwin, or TOAD.
- Experience in AWS.
- Experience with security models and development on large data sets.
- Experience with multiple database technologies.
- Experience with multiple database solutions (e.g., Postgres, Redshift, Aurora, Athena) and formal database designs (3NF, Dimensional Models).
- Experience with Agile Development, CI/CD, Jenkins, Github, Automation platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large, complex data domains and craft practical solutions for subsequent data exploitation via analytics.
- Ability to communicate with a geographically dispersed group of business and technical colleagues.
- Ability to review and provide practical recommendations on design patterns, performance considerations & optimization, database versions, and database deployment strategies.
- Knowledgeable in data functions such as Data Governance, Master Data Management, Business Intelligence.
- Experience in moving on-premises solutions into cloud and knowledge in multiple data ingestion patterns.
