12th August 2025 The Associated Press seeks a talented journalist to join its Election Services team as a news editor overseeing our coverage of elections – from the mechanics of counting ballots on election night to explaining how AP declares winners. This editor will serve as a senior member of the Elections Services team and will work in close coordination with AP’s politics news editor and leaders in the Washington bureau as they direct the journalism that comes from AP’s unique role in American democracy. This is an administrative role based in Washington, D.C., although exceptional candidates in other locations will be considered. Responsibilities: Report to the vice president and head of Elections Services, joining a team of researchers, data scientists, developers, journalists, and others in AP’s Elections Services team. Supervise a small team of elections explanatory reporters based in Washington, as well as the elections interactives and graphics team. Oversee journalism originating from AP’s vote count and election analytics teams, including AP’s race calls. Coordinate with the politics editor and peer editors to craft reports from Election Day and the surrounding days. Work with the elections interactives and graphics editor to shape data visualizations and storytelling. Organize and direct coverage across media formats, collaborating with partner editors across the newsroom to serve AP's global digital audiences.
