Sela PCS was created to help tackle educational inequity, racial segregation and cultural isolation - to create a place where students would be celebrated as they begin their global citizenship journey. Sela is a dual language Hebrew and English school that proudly serves and educates 300+ PreK-3 - 5th grade students in Washington, DC.

The Opportunity
The Elementary Dean plays a critical leadership role in cultivating and maintaining a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment. This individual is responsible for supporting positive student behavior, implementing school-wide and individual behavior systems, and coaching teachers in behavior management. The Dean will collaborate closely with students, families, teachers, and school leaders to ensure effective behavior interventions and foster a school culture aligned with Sela’s values and mission.
Job Responsibilities
Student Behavior and Support
Create a system for and respond promptly to behavioral incidents and student needs throughout the school day Develop and lead restorative and other responses to behavioral incidents Create, implement, and monitor individual Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students requiring additional support Serve as a key member of the schoolwide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) committee, contributing behavioral expertise to ensure aligned and data-driven intervention strategies Support the development and implementation of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 behavior interventions in coordination with the MTSS team Collect and analyze behavior data to inform MTSS decisions and adjust supports as needed Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, and special education staff to ensure appropriate interventions are in place and progress is tracked Support Tier 1, proactive strategies to minimize behavior disruptions Supervise common areas (hallways, lunch, recess, etc.) to ensure a safe, orderly environment Support with student and staff safety, as needed (i.e. emergency drills)
Schoolwide PBIS Implementation
In collaboration with the school leadership team, support the implementation and sustainability of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) across the school Collaborate with school leadership and staff to establish clear behavior expectations, incentives, and consistent consequences Monitor fidelity of PBIS systems, including data tracking, school-wide routines, and reinforcement strategies Promote a culture of positive reinforcement, recognition, and restorative practices throughout the school community
Family and Stakeholder Communication
Communicate consistently with families regarding student behavior, interventions, and progress. Collaborate with school staff, including special education and mental health teams, to support student success In collaboration with the Elementary School Director, facilitate family meetings and behavior support conferences when necessary. Provide written and verbal documentation of behavior incidents and interventions to appropriate stakeholders
Teacher Support and Coaching
Provide coaching to teachers on classroom management and behavior strategies. Support teachers in developing and implementing effective behavior plans for students Collaborate with teachers to ensure a consistent, school-wide approach to behavior expectations and consequences. Model best practices in student engagement, de-escalation, and restorative discipline
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field 3+ years of experience working with elementary-age students in an urban school setting Demonstrated success in managing student behavior and supporting teachers in behavior management Familiarity with PBIS, MTSS, and Responsive Classroom Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care Master’s degree in education, counseling, or administration (preferred) Experience leading schoolwide PBIS implementation or behavior intervention systems (preferred) Experience serving on or leading MTSS teams (preferred) Experience coaching or mentoring educators (preferred) Bilingual in English and Hebrew is a plus (preferred)
Job Information
This is a 40-hour non-exempt full-time position. The hours are from 7:45 am to 3:45 pm with one 30-minute break This position reports to the Director, Elementnary This position has no supervisory responsibilities The salary range for the Dean, Elementary is $75,000 - $85,000.
