Design Quality Engineer
to join our Quality team. This role will be based in
Pasadena, CA , supporting the development of innovative In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems for commercial and business aviation. This role is responsible for ensuring design integrity, product reliability, and regulatory compliance throughout the product development lifecycle. The Design Quality Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to embed quality into the design process and support certification activities aligned with aerospace standards.
Essential Functions Collaborate with design, systems, and software engineering teams to develop and validate quality and reliability requirements for IFE components Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and participate in risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate design issues Define and support design verification and qualification testing, including environmental and EMC testing per RTCA/DO-160 Support design assurance in compliance with DO-254 (hardware) and DO-178 (software) Apply ARP4754 and ARP4761 guidelines to support system development and safety assessments Maintain quality documentation, including test reports, control plans, traceability matrices, and First Article Inspection (FAI) records Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes (8D, RCA, CAPA) for field and test-related failures Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support to ensure quality requirements are met Support FAA/EASA compliance and contribute to audit and certification activities Promote DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFR (Design for Reliability), and DFT (Design for Testability) practices Contribute to continuous improvement of design quality, reliability metrics, and in-service performance Perform additional quality-related duties as required by the Quality Manager
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent relevant experience) Minimum 3 years of experience in quality, reliability, or design engineering in aerospace or IFE/electronics environments Familiarity with DO-254, DO-160, DO-178, ARP4754, ARP4761, and AS9100 standards Experience with FMEA, 8D, root cause analysis, PPAP, and SPC Understanding of electronic hardware design and software development life cycles Proficiency in CAD tools and documentation systems; experience with PLM/QMS tools preferred Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with IFE systems or cabin electronics (e.g., Panasonic Avionics, Thales, Astronics, Collins Aerospace) Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification Knowledge of configuration management and design assurance practices
