Prince William Public Libraries Prince William County’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking experienced candidates to lead our Enterprise Applications Division at DoIT. The Software Engineering Director is a pivotal role, essential for value-added application development services from the IT Department of the County through application development service offerings, consolidating applications to address sprawl, and maintaining operational excellence in enterprise applications. As a key member of DoIT’s Executive Leadership Team, you will collaborate with senior Department leaders, other leaders across the County, and the Board of County Supervisors. You will also work with the IT industry to help the Department of Information Technology deliver innovative, cost-effective technology application solutions that benefit the community and enhance government services. About This Role:
The Senior Engineering Director will deliver subject matter expertise in software engineering and management to help DoIT establish new capabilities in application development and will oversee all enterprise application divisions. The leader will ensure alignment with the Department’s and the County’s strategic goals and develop additional value creation opportunities for the Enterprise Applications Division.
This role oversees the Business Technology Services team, is tightly-coupled with the Geospatial Technology Services (GTS) team and will help bring additional thought leadership to the Division. A critical aspect of this position is fostering the development of strong Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with deep application engineering and implementation experience, ensuring that the County’s technology application portfolio offers the county robust, scalable, and Cloud-centric applications and platforms to meet the evolving business and service needs of the County.

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 8 years of progressively responsible experience in IT, including engineering and operations management of enterprise applications in at an executive level.
Preferences
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of Experience running a Software Engineering organization or DevOps practice. 7+ years of leadership and supervision experience, including direct management of IT teams. Proven experience in application modernization, consolidation, and the integration of AI and automation technologies. Expertise in financial systems, HCM systems, ERP Systems, and other enterprise platforms and technologies. Experience with IT governance frameworks (e.g., ITIL, COBIT) and fiscal management. Relevant certifications in software engineering, leadership and I.T. are a plus and should be provided.

Work Schedule:
Full-time (37.5-hour work week), Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Occasional after-hours work required based on business needs. Telework eligible, subject to in-office scheduling changes.
Starting Salary Range : $128,680.50 - $163,195.50
