We are looking for a backend engineer to join our growing team supporting Greystone’s web applications, workflows, and integrations. You will develop scalable services and APIs, work with relational and non-relational databases, and contribute to ongoing product development in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You’ll work closely with senior engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to build secure, maintainable, and high-performing software systems that deliver real value to our users.
This is an in-person role. You are expected to work with the team from our New York City office 4 days a week.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop Backend Systems – Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs for our real estate technology platform. Collaborate & Execute – Work closely with cross-functional teams in an agile, sprint-based workflow. Problem-Solve – Help troubleshoot issues, improve performance, and refactor legacy systems. Write Clean Code – Emphasize modular, well-tested, and maintainable code with good documentation. Develop Tests - Including unit and integration tests. Interact with Databases - Queries, migrations, modifications, optimization. You’ll be expected to work with both structured (SQL) and non-structured (e.g. JSON-based) databases, directly and via ORM. Contribute to DevOps – Participate in deployment processes, environment configuration, and CI/CD workflows. Support Internal Adoption – Help internal teams understand backend features, integrations, and APIs. Experience, Skills, and Abilities Required:
3+ years of experience building backend services & REST APIs. Strong proficiency in Python (FastAPI experience is a plus). Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases; comfortable with ORMs like SQLAlchemy. Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD tools. Exposure to agile development methodologies (e.g. Jira). Commitment to test-driven development and quality assurance practices. Experience with TypeScript, React, C#, or CRM systems like Salesforce/Dynamics is a plus.

Greystone offers a competitive base salary and bonus. The base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000/year. The specific compensation that will be offered is based on an understanding of the hired candidates' qualifications at the time of hire. Employees are eligible for a discretionary bonus based on employee work performance reviewed during the annual review process.
