As the Director and Chaplain, you will play an important role in our community by coordinating the College's on-campus and off-campus religious programming, serving as senior Chaplain to the College community, and supporting students, faculty, and staff on their spiritual journeys. This position oversees the administrative and budgetary functions of the Center for Spiritual Life department and acts as the principal religious liaison of the College to the Presbyterian Church (USA), local churches and religious groups, and to the broader higher education community.
The role requires the incumbent to possess a high degree of skill in interpersonal communication, specifically in active and empathetic listening. The Director must possess a commitment to student development within the context of a population with of racial, ethnic, cultural, and sexual difference, as well as a commitment to a church-related liberal arts education and to student development through an integrated approach to student life. The ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and maturity in handling sensitive information, student interactions, and community relations is vital for the incumbent.
This position is posted as full-time, 10-month position (August-May); however, there is flexibility to consider a part-time arrangement, particularly for candidates who are part of a local congregation and looking to serve in partnership with a local Presbyterian (U.S.A.) congregation and looking to serve in partnership.

Key Responsibilities Oversee and support the work of student Spiritual Life on-campus clubs, organizations, and on-campus clergy, including the Arabic club, Buddhist meditation, Catholic Campus Ministry, Fire By Night, Hillel, InterVarsity, campus Buddhist monk, campus Catholic priest, campus rabbi, and other religious leaders; Oversee the religious, spiritual, and interfaith programs of the Religious Life student coordinators; Manage the administrative functions of the department, including the oversight of the budget of the Center for Spiritual Life department; Act as the College's primary liturgist and leader of prayer; coordinating the Baccalaureate Service and Ceremony of Lights and participating in other ceremonies including Commencement and offering the devotional at Faculty Meetings Seek external funding for programs and scholarships by working closely with the Office of Advancement and with the Director of Sponsored Programs and Grants; Develop and direct programs exploring vocation in undergraduate education; develop and implement training focused on the engagement of religious difference and religious pluralism; assist student leaders in developing the skills necessary to work with peers from diverse faiths and worldviews; and provide opportunities for discernment in the context of the reflective service learning programs and internships. Plan and implement lecture series events; Develop and implement workshops/forums of interest and benefit to local clergy and laity; Oversee collaborative religious and interfaith programs with churches, religious groups, and other academic institutions; Maintain a presence in the higher education ministry realms of Presbyterian Church (USA) and national/global ecumenical arenas; Develop promotional materials for the Spiritual Life department; Provide executive oversight of the Wireman Chapel facilities; Act as a member of the Outreach and Intervention Team in Student Affairs; Participate actively in the Student Affairs Division of Eckerd College and contribute to the goals of the Division as a member of the Student Affairs Department Head Team.
Qualifications Master's degree in divinity, theology, or a related field; doctorate preferred; A minimum of three years of administrative experience required; executive administrative experience in a religious organization or educational institution preferred; Valid ordination in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) required.
