Job Summary
The Director of Development for University Programs is responsible for leading fundraising efforts for a variety of University Initiatives, including Student Affairs and Student Success, the Library, Veteran and Military Affairs, Scholarship programs, and interdisciplinary centers and initiatives (including but not limited to the Center for Leadership, StartUp FIU, Fostering Panther Pride, FIU in DC program, etc.). Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Development and works in conjunction with the Vice President of Student Affairs and other respective units. The Director of Development serves as a frontline fundraiser whose primary responsibility is to identify, expand, diversify, and cultivate relationships with prospective and existing donors, to promote the culture of philanthropy and successfully close gifts.
Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive strategic direction in the development and implementation of a fundraising program, management of a fundraising board, and building and strengthening of strategic industry partnerships in support of the mission, vision, fundraising and goals.
- Develops, plans, and implements strategies to secure gift funding from individuals, corporations, and foundations in support of the fundraising priorities of initiatives under University Programs.
- Directs all fundraising activities and initiates the development of donor cultivation, development of proposals, and solicitations of gifts and grants at the major and principal gift levels.
- Establishes and proactively manages a portfolio of up to 150 potential partners, donors, and prospects whose profiles and FIU affinity make them likely to make a gift.
- Travels to meet with and personally solicit previous and potential donors on various campuses and businesses, locally, nationally, internationally, and throughout the community.
- Documents contact and prospect moves, tracking progress using Raiser's Edge/FPM, and adhering to University Advancement prospect policies.
- Organizes, promotes, and maintains collaborative working relationships with key faculty, leadership, staff, and volunteers in support of FIU.
- Drafts, designs, and prepares proposals needed for the solicitation of prospective donors.
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits. Displays honesty, integrity, and ethics to donors.
- Represents the University and/or the college at public functions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields; OR twelve (12) years of experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications
Understanding of fundraising principles and experience with donor cultivation and solicitation preferred.
