Job Title: Mainframe Developer COBOL / DB2 / VSAM Location: Rolling Meadows, IL (must be currently local to the area) Job Summary: We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mainframe Developer with strong experience in COBOL, DB2, and VSAM to join our IT team. You will play a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and supporting our core insurance applications running on IBM mainframe systems. This position involves collaboration with business analysts, QA teams, and other developers to deliver efficient, scalable, and secure software solutions. Key Responsibilities: Develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, and VSAM. Analyze and resolve issues in existing systems and processes. Participate in the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, implementation, and support. Create and maintain technical documentation and code comments. Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions on time. Perform impact analysis and root cause analysis for production issues. Contribute to performance tuning and optimization of mainframe programs. Adhere to coding standards, security policies, and change management protocols. Qualifications: Required: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of experience in mainframe development. Experience in the insurance industry, especially policy administration or claims systems. Strong expertise in COBOL, DB2, and VSAM. Proficiency with JCL, TSO/ISPF, and file handling techniques. Experience with batch and online (CICS optional) program development. Solid understanding of mainframe debugging and testing tools (e.g., Xpediter, Abend-AID, File-AID). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Seniority level
