The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, a nonprofit civil legal services program, is seeking a Foreclosure Prevention Attorney. The attorney will provide legal assistance to homeowners threatened with foreclosure in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton Counties served from the Plattsburgh office. Our service area spans sixteen counties in upstate New York, encompassing six regional offices. This position is based out of our Plattsburgh Office. Must be licensed to practice law in NYS or eligible for admission. Law graduates may be considered if they have taken the bar exam. Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and providing high-quality legal services in civil matters. Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and efficiently. Sensitivity to the needs of low and moderate-income households in crisis. Good computer and administrative skills, including accurate data entry. Ability to handle a high-volume caseload, work off-site, and collaborate with community partners. Must have a car and a valid New York driver's license. Experience in foreclosure, real estate, or housing law is preferred. Spanish language skills are a plus. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide legal advice, brief services, negotiation, and full representation in foreclosure proceedings and related cases. Engage in advocacy with mortgage servicers, tax districts, and agencies. Assist homeowners in accessing funds to prevent foreclosure. Conduct outreach and participate in community meetings and legal clinics. Represent clients in various legal forums and proceedings. Manage case files, data, and grant reporting. Work Environment
