Responsible for tending to metal fabricating machines such as, but not limited to, cut-off saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, sizers, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures by performing the duties and responsibilities as outlined within this job description. Essential duties and responsibilities include: Produce parts as directed by material control, and or the engineering department so to attain the required production levels and quality. Prep and inspect parts for final production. Run first time production parts as directed and perform Poka Yokes. Participate in job rotation through each cell which addresses cross training and ergonomical issues. Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template. Position workpiece against stops or align layout marks with die or blades. Push button or depress pedal to activate machine. Observe machine operations to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction. Monitor the output of quality parts through inspection, scrap records, statistical process controls, and station control sheets. Measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation. Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpiece. Perform 5S activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualification requirements include: Education and experience requirements: High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to read and comprehend work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, peers, or subordinates by phone, in writing, and/or in person. Ability to tell when an operating error is occurring and assist in deciding what to do about it. Ability to work within a team environment. Ability to work with hand tools. Ability to maintain accurate records. Physical demands: Standing for long periods of time. Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Reaching with hands and arms. Talking and hearing. Occasional walking, stooping, crawling, kneeling, or crouching. Repeatedly lifting, tugging and/or moving up to 35 pounds (at times it may be necessary to lift more.) Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to sit frequently for extended periods of time. Ability to move about the plant in both the office and manufacturing areas. Work environment: Typical manufacturing environment. May encounter extreme heat, fumes, odors, dirt, dust, noise, moving objects. Performance expectations: Ability and willingness to work any shift. Ability and willingness to work overtime when necessary. Must be prompt in reaching assigned cell at the start of shift and at the end of each break. Excellent attendance. Good work ethic. Highly motivated self-starter.
