Genetics, Genomics and Informatics Assistant Professor- College of Medicine Join to apply for the Genetics, Genomics and Informatics Assistant Professor- College of Medicine role at UTHSC College of Pharmacy Job Description The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Department of Genetics, Genomics and Informatics, is recruiting a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position as an Assistant Professor, available immediately. The focus is on high-performance computational pangenomics and genetics applied to humans, model organisms, and somatic mutations. Responsibilities Supervising students, fellows, programmers, and technicians. Writing scientific papers and producing open-source software systems. Presenting data at scientific meetings and applying for grants. Reporting to the department chair. Supervising lab personnel and research technicians (if applicable). Qualifications A PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field, with experience in algorithm development and software engineering for (pan)genomics. Departmental Preferences At least 5 years of experience in high-performance computing and open-source software development in biomedical research. Expertise in statistical genomics, code optimization for HPC, web services for genomics, programming languages, database systems for HPC, sequence alignment, and pangenomics. Proven research track record with active grants from US federal agencies. Strong skills in C++ and Python, fluency with Linux command-line; experience with Rust or other functional languages is a plus. Experience with software deployment tools like Nix, Guix, Conda. Interest in genetics and genomics. Excellent communication skills connecting technology to biology and bridging developers to end users.
