Associate Engineer and Principal Engineer A Senior Engineer should be able to prepare all types of geotechnical investigations that the company performs. A Senior Engineer should have a Bachelor's degree and preferably a Master's degree in civil engineering (or a closely related field). They should be a registered Civil Engineer in the State of California and are highly encouraged to register as a Geotechnical Engineer. A Senior Engineer works independently on all but the most complicated engineering projects, with work reviewed by the Associate Engineer and/or Principal Engineer. Under general supervision from an Associate Engineer and/or Principal Engineer, the Senior Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating multiple projects, often with input from lower-level engineers. They are encouraged to contact current and prospective clients. The role includes preparing budgets, proposals, and SOQ documents (subject to review). Typical responsibilities: Prepare all but the most complicated reports with minimal supervision. Work on litigation projects and provide expert witness services under direction. Prepare cost estimates, budgets, proposals, and SOQ submittals. Attend and testify at public hearings. Contact current and potential clients regarding scope of work, costs, and future projects. Supervision of engineering staff: Assign engineers to active projects. Schedule drilling activities. Review engineering letters and reports. Ensure deadlines are met. Coordinate engineers/technicians for construction projects. Typical skills and attributes: Excellent communication skills. Ability to guide and mentor lower-level engineers. Extensive geotechnical consulting experience. Some experience in business development and marketing.
